Wood-oo is a family of sideboards and lowboards designed for AL2. The collection draws upon selected principles found in the masquerade traditions of the Vodun cultural area.

There is no single or homogeneous category of “Vodun mask.” Across Benin, Togo and neighbouring territories, Gèlèdè, Zangbeto and Egúngún belong to distinct communities and ceremonial traditions. Rather than reproducing a specific mask, the project explores principles connecting body, material, concealment and collective recognition.

Within these traditions, masquerade is not an isolated carved face, but a complete presence produced through costume, fibres, textiles, movement and ritual. By concealing, enlarging or transforming the human body, it can make ancestral, social or protective authority publicly perceptible. Protection is therefore understood as an active relationship between an enclosing form, its interior and the surrounding community.

Wood-oo sideboards extend the formal language of the Wood-oo Armchair. Its two bent-plywood seat elements reappear as rear shells that curve around the sides of the cabinet, retaining their characteristic central line of separation.

Available in different configurations, the collection combines a pure cabinet volume with two curved plywood backs, push-pull doors, a metal base and a horizontal solid-wood handle. The cabinet, fronts, top, rear shells and base can be differentiated through woods, lacquers, ceramics and marble, allowing the double structure and its enveloping profile to emerge through contrasting materials and colours.

translates selected characteristics of masquerade into a domestic storage system: a concealed interior, an enclosing double shell and a protective perimeter. The cultural reference is expressed through morphology and use. The cabinet becomes a quiet presence that contains, protects and organises the objects of everyday life.
